This month SO magazine chats to Chris Hammond of local boutique developer Beau Property. The company was founded by Chris in 2009 with the aim of delivering a tailored and high-quality solution to all aspects of the residential property market. From sourcing and acquiring land and property, to refurbishing homes Beau Property can manage everything from start to finish.Their most recent development is Nevill Row, a collection of eight modern, finely-crafted Victorian-style homes near The Pantiles.

Where do you live?

We live in a small village next to Groombridge called Withyham – a really quick 15-minute drive from Tunbridge Wells.

How long have you lived there and what made you decide to move there?

We moved here two and a half years ago just before the first Covid lockdown. We were expecting our second child and needed more outdoor space, we were living in the centre of Tunbridge Wells beforehand but having grown up in the country the lure to move out of town was calling.

Where’s your favourite place to shop locally?

I love having a wander around The Pantiles and the village area of Tunbridge Wells. I have recently been shopping in Gray & Co the men’s fashion shop in Chapel Place.There aren’t many men’s clothes shop in the town but Gray & Co is a little treasure.

Where’s the best place to go for a Sunday stroll?

My family and I love a trip out to Ashdown Forest. It isn’t far from us and there are so many wonderful walks of different lengths and some incredible views to take in.

Where’s the best place to get a cup of coffee from in your opinion?

I actually don’t drink tea or coffee BUT I had the most incredible brownie from Hatton’s on The Pantiles last week which kept me going during a long day of viewings at our recently launched show home at Nevill Row.

Where do you take people when they come to visit?

We always take friends to The Pantiles. Not only is it a really short walk from our latest development at Nevill Row everyone who visits just falls in love with it. I think it’s such a unique part of Tunbridge Wells that sets us apart from other commuter towns. Tunbridge Wells is steeped in history yet still retains a real buzzy vibe.

What’s the night life like where you live?

Well having two young children it’s not something we see that much of! However, the town does have a lot to offer, we had dinner in Coco Retro last week which was fabulous as always. The Gin Bar is always a firm favourite for some drinks and I hear The Vault is pretty good for a bit of late night dancing!

Where’s your favourite place to eat locally?

The George and Dragon in Speldhurst. Bobby Brown the chef is taking the menu from strength to strength and the new outside area is so family and dog friendly.

And where’s your favourite place to go to take in the views?

Hands down they’re at The Beacon. The views over Happy Valley can only make you feel very relaxed especially if the sun is shining and you can sit outside on the terrace.

If you’re looking to relax and unwind, where’s your favourite place to go?

For me it has to be Sweat-It which is a small group training gym only five minutes away from home. I get one hour with no phone and therefore no distractions.

Where’s the best place to meet friends and socialise?

Meeting friends on The Pantiles is great as children can run around and there is such a good choice of places to eat and drink.

What do you do when you spend a weekend or day off in the local area?

If I have a day off during the week I try to fit a round of golf in at The Nevill and on the weekends we like to go out as a family for a walk followed by a lunch somewhere nearby.

Why do you love where you live?

Tunbridge Wells has got so much to offer, lots of independent shops, restaurants and bars which cater for all ages. Live music and food festivals are on regularly and London is only 50-minute train ride away.The town has got a great buzz, lots of friendly people and if you want to get into the countryside it’s on your doorstep with lots of incredible walks.
